Event Description: 2026 Fundamentals Class Day Trip to the Headwaters of the Middle Fork of the Stanislaus at Kennedy Meadows -

Event Skill Levels:
  • River:  small to medium stream depending on where you fish.  Easy access with easy to moderate wading.
  • Wading: beginner to intermediate. Wet wading is possible.
  • Hiking: 1 to 2 miles for beginner to intermediate.
  • Catch success rate: high

This is for the 2026 Fundamentals Class on stream segment, and is a one day trip to Kennedy Meadows to fish for wild browns and rainbows. Located East of Sonora on Hwy 108 on the Stanislaus River, this area is both breathtaking and a welcomed break from the heat. It is a walk and wade trip, typically involving easy crossing of the river in shallows while fishing dry flies, emergers and small nymphs. Wet wading is also a possibility. It is suggested that you do bring along a wading staff if you plan on wading.  Waders and boots are not a necessity if you haven't purchased them yet.

The Stanislaus River can be a productive and exciting water that offers a nice day trip being only 3 hours away from Pleasanton/Livermore. Our day will encompass a full day of fishing with a streamside break for lunch; you will need to bring your own food and beverages.

Cost:

Credit Card price: This trip as included in your Fundamentals Class tuition, so there is no other cost other than transportation to Kennedy Meadows.

Fishmeister: Rob Farris, 925-296-5502.  RFFarris@comcast.net

Accommodations and Food:

Each angler should plan to bring and carry their own lunch and drinks and plan to eat with the group on the streamside.  With an elevation of 6400 feet, water consumption will be important so be prepared to carry enough for the day.

Drinks and dinner are available for additional cost in Sonora at the conclusion of the day.

Members and guests are responsible for their own transportation costs as well.  Carpooling is encouraged.

Gear and Tackle Recommendations:

Rod & line weights/types: 3-5 wt traditional fly rods & reels with floating line.

Leaders and tippet: Usually leaders of 9 foot with tippets of 5x – 6x are used. Fishing is typically closer with shorter cast.

Other gear: Standard waders, boots usually with spikes to navigate the rocks, and normal fishing wear. Due to the warm weather, wet wading is also an option.  Hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen, are also suggested.

Flies: Flies will vary but can include midges, mayfly nymphs, and caddis. Typical sizes are 16 to 22, using single to three flies rigging. Recent activity suggests small parachute Adams and small Elk Hair caddis have been effective.

TVFF Outings protocols are as follows:

·         If you are sick with cold/flu symptoms then we ask you to please stay home

·         We believe in social distancing and require that all members keep a full fly rod distance of at least 6’ distance between parties

·         All attendees should wash and sanitize their hands frequently
