EducationWe provide a wide variety of educational opportunities for all levels of anglers including renowned guest speakers at monthly meetings to professional level instruction. Learning can evolve through many forms such as access to our DVD library to on-stream skill development and more formal classroom settings. A key objective of the club is to promote and enhance each member’s enjoyment of the sport and to offer those educational opportunities for learning according to individual needs.Guest SpeakersA valuable offering of the club is the utilization of renowned professional guides and expert speakers presenting at the monthly club meetings. Each meeting features an in-depth presentation on fishing locations, specific skills, or an element of interest to the general membership. Past speakers have included professional guides, conservation experts, fishing destination planners, and state and non-governmental organizations such as California Fish & Wildlife, Trout Unlimited, and CalTrout, etc. Past speaking topics have included fishing the Shasta watersheds, qualifying for the California Heritage Trout Challenge, surf fishing, proper fly fishing eyewear options, fishing the San Luis reservoir and Forebay, fishing the Truckee and Little Truckee rivers, and high stick nymphing techniques, among many others. Tips & TricksAs fly fishers we strive to continually expand our skills and knowledge of the sport. A key element of that is accessing learning tools and making those available to our members from resources within the club and from external sources. Our Tips & Tricks section is available to all members of the Club. Professional Instruction and Guide TripsAt various times during the year, the club organizes guided outings to supplement our internal Fishmeister offerings. These trips require advance notice and are fully guided trips that can include float trips, wading, hiking and backpacking trips as an example. The trips are all identified and listed in the club’s calendar with details available there for each trip. Guided trips can specialize and be tailored to individual or group instruction and education, as well as enhancing your fish-catching capabilities on key waters. Workshops and SeminarsAt various times the club will have seminars or expanded workshops on various fly fishing topics conducted by professional guides on specific areas of interest, such as high stick nymphing techniques, spey casting, fishing the February Skwala hatch, winter and high water fishing, and dry fly presentation techniques, etc. These are usually intensive full day workshops with minimal charges for guided workshops. Club Member DVD LibraryTri-Valley Fly Fishers maintains a Video Library that consists of 150 DVD titles available to members at each monthly meeting. The DVDs are checked out from a list of titles that cover all elements and locations of the sport of fly fishing. Subjects covered include equipment, discussion on gear and line set-up, technique, locations, bugs, fly tying, how to identify and work streams and stillwater hotspots, and how to position yourself to catch fish covering salt-water, delta, rivers and streams, and lakes. Tri-Valley Fly Fishers charter and Bylaws provide both fly fishing skill development for the novice angler, as well as more advanced programs on different fly fishing styles, fly tying techniques, and more in-depth curriculums. Our current offerings include:
