Gauging Interest in a Mexico Adventure for Big Fish

Calling all club members! Jim Knecht is gauging interest for organizing and leading a trip to Mexico in September of 2026. Read on and for more information regarding this trip.

This will be focusing on but not limited to the following target species:

Dorado
Yellowfin Tuna
Cabrilla
Pargo
Wahoo
Striped Marlin
Blue Marlin
Black Marlin
Other Sailfish

Location for this adventure will be the Palapa Ventana Resort, located in La Ventana, Baja Mexico. Fishing will be on the Sea of Cortez, fly fishing with 10 to 12 weight rods from guided boats.

This fly-fishing package includes the following:

7 Days, 6 nights AC Specialty Casita -2 anglers per room
5 Fishing boat days - 2 anglers per boat (panga). Both anglers are fishing at the same time.
All meals (Chef’s Choice) (Coffee, water, tea). Palapas Ventana can accommodate food allergies and food restrictions.
Use of Kayaks, snorkel gear, bicycles
Fishing license included, as well as live bait when available, filleting service, and Ziplock service.

Transportation

Getting to the lodge will be the responsibility of the participants. The lodge is located 45 minutes from the La Paz International Airport (LAP), or 2.5 hours from San Jose del Cabo International Airport (SJD). United and Alaska have non-stop flights as of August 2025 from SFO to San Jose del Cabo for $279. Airport shuttles are available as cash only for up to eight individuals.

Cost

Jim has been working the resort and has provided pricing for up to 12 people. The cost is $3054, with a $500 deposit to secure this opportunity.
