Renovation of historic Ah-Di-Na campground on the McCloud river.  Postponed until further notice.

This is one of the most important rivers for fly fishing in the state and country.

On behalf of the Northern California Council, Fly Fishers International (NCCFFI), and the McCloud River, you are invited to participate in the Ah Di Na Restoration Project 2025 –The Kirston Koths Memorial Ah Di Na Restoration Project (Phases I & 2).

NCCFFI is partnering with the US Forest Service and numerous stakeholders, including Tri-Valley Fly Fishers, to give this campground on the storied McCloud River a fresh start. Ah Di Na is located on the Lower McCloud, home of the Wintu people for centuries. It is now managed by the US Forest Service.

Due to the Forest Service budget and staffing shortages, campground maintenance has suffered over the years, and it is in disrepair, with rotted picnic tables, damaged fire rings, and a lot of overgrowth at the campsites themselves. And unfortunately, this is the “premier” campground for access to the McCloud and the Nature Conservancy property (think October Caddis super hatches and big McCloud Rainbow trout).  Please join us to give this important fly-fishing resource a much-needed restoration while we camp in the area.

All the stakeholders have something to bring to the table; expertise, financial resources (TVFF has contributed $500 for this project), materials, and/or volunteers. We’re counting on the fly fishing clubs whose members use this campground and love this river to get engaged in the project.

There are two ways to participate:

1. Become an Organizational or Individual Sponsor by donating money for materials--lumber, hardware, paint, and other supplies. FFI has a goal of raising $8000, and there are different levels of contributions: $250+ Brown Trout, $500+ Rainbow Trout, $1000+ Golden Trout. Sponsors will be recognized with an onsite plaque. Tri-Valley Fly Fishers has donated $500, but individuals have also donated to help this project.  Even small donations help! Donate to the Ah Di Na Restoration Project

2. Be a supporter by participating with 5-10 TVFF Club volunteers per session to help set up/repair picnic tables, replace fire rings, remove overgrowth from campsites, put fresh paint on the bathrooms and perform maintenance on existing trails to the river. And there will be fishing time on the river as well.

Talents and Tools! From hand tools to chain saws, generators and ingenuity too! Everyone has something to contribute. We look forward to using everyone’s talents. FFI will supply the dinners. Bring your instruments and sheet music. Polish your story telling for the evenings.

Two work sessions are planned in May. All volunteers working on the project will be covered by US Forest Service insurance.

Work Session dates (Session 1 cancelled due to road repairs):

Session 2: May 1-3 (Thurs – Sat) FFI session 2 registration

Session 3: May 15-17 (Thurs – Sat) FFI session 3 registration

More details will follow as Fly Fishers International solidifies all the plans with the Forest Service. In the meantime, if you have any questions or comments, please contact Scott Harrison, the NCCFFI Project Lead, at mccloudcamp@gmail.com or 510-704-0402.

For TVFF members please first register on the Nor Cal FFI site above by selected date to confirm your attendance.  Then, you should also register on our TVFF website here for “Registered Ah-Di-Na Attendees” so that our club members have visibility to who is attending for camping and carpool sharing.  Note that registering on the TVFF website will NOT confirm or register you for the FFI work party.
