Fly Tying Get-Together - Wednesday, August 14 - Livermore Rod and Gun Club - 7 PM to 9PM

The August Get Together will be Wednesday the 14th. As requested by the Alaska bound club members, we will get acquainted with the Dolly Llama fly. This is a two color rabbit material fly that is a staple for Alaska salmon and trout fishing. We can also tie a pattern called Slumpbuster using the same techniques. Using smaller hooks this fly can be used on steelhead, trout and LM bass.

Dolly Llama material list:

  • Hook - Stinger for the trailer, size 2 or 4 short shank, Octopus
  • Body hook - Long shank streamer
  • Bead - Cone bead in size large
  • Wire - Lead free wire .020
  • Thread - UTC 140 denier or any strong thread
  • Stinger connection - 20 to 40lb braid line
  • Body - Magnum rabbit zonker strips If tying in a smaller size use regular zonkers. Blk/wht, Blk/red, pink/wht chartreuse/wht, wht/red
  • Lateral line - Salt water flashabou or lateral scale

Slumpbuster material list:

  • Hook - Streamer hook size 8 or 10 4x long, 1x strong
  • Bead - Cone or bead 5/32 or 3/16
  • Wire - Lead free .020
  • Rib - Any color wire, size brassie
  • Braid - Sparkle braid to wrap hook shank
  • Tail and body - Pine Squirrel or rabbit zonker and rabbit crosscut
