June Meeting - Presentations on Women in Fly Fishing

We have a bit of a double feature for our members, and a good opportunity for their spouses to join us on these important topics for women and the men who support them. You may have talked with these organizations as their booths were across from ours at the fly show this year. This month we are featuring two local women’s organizations that seek to introduce fly fishing to women via used equipment donations, and to assist in individual recovery for those that have had or are experiencing breast cancer.

Nicole Lazarus and Lori Paciulla from Casting for Recovery will be with us. They will be sharing their organization, its goals, and their utilization of fly fishing to help those in recovery from breast cancer. They are seeking volunteer on-stream fishing helpers, particularly for their Fall Fly Fishing Weekend session in October on the Trinity River.

We will also be joined by Julia Mitchell and Temma Roby from Rising to the Fly. They will be sharing their organization and goals which seeks to make fly fishing more accessible and affordable to girls and women through donations of fly fishing equipment.

This is a good opportunity to bring along your spouse, partner, or a friend to hear how quickly fly fishing is growing with new female members, and how we can best support that continued growth through two key programs.
