December Fly Tying Get Together
Fly Tying Get-together - Wednesday, Nov. 8 - Livermore Rod and Gun Club - 7 pm
At the December Get Together we will explore the basics of tying articulated fly patterns. If you look up articulated flies on Google it will be showing mostly streamer patterns, great for stripers, and predator patterns great for muskies though I have yet to catch one of those in our area. I have tied some trout nymphs in 10s and 14s that look pretty cool. Size materials for larger flies or trout nymphs as the tying steps are about the same.
Materials: Hooks: Stripers... 2/0 to #2 Nymph....10 to 14 Streamer with strait eye and caddis, scud hooks Tail: usual material.... hackle, goose biot, synthetic fibers Loop connection: Tippet 3/0 for small flies, Dacron backing 20# braid line, small stranded wire Store bought articulated shanks Crazy glue Wire cutter for cutting bend off of hooks (dikes)
