Session #2: Classroom at Livermore Rod & Gun Club
This class is designed for the beginner to intermediate levels of entomology with the objective of educating attendees to be more effective fly fishers. It will be comprised of three classroom Wednesday night sessions of 2.5 hours each, finalized with a full day (Saturday) session on Putah Creek for a practical discovery session followed by four hours of fishing.

Class Curriculum:
Session 1: Classroom (Wednesday February 5, 2020) – Time 7 – 9:30 pm • Introduction to Entomology and class goals • Entomology reference sources and guides • Water quality, habitat and biological classification • Metamorphosis, generations, and Taxonomy
Session 2: Classroom (Wednesday February 26, 2020) - Time 7 – 9:30 pm • Session 1 quick review • Taxonomy • Mayflies (Emphemeroptera), and Stoneflies (Plecoptera) • Midges (Diptera), and Caddis (Tricoptera) • Other orders and terrestrials • Clingers, swimmers, burrowers, and crawlers • Behavioral drift • Understanding and imitating sub surface bug movement
Session 3: Classroom (Wednesday March 11, 2020) – Time 7-9:30 PM • Session 2 quick review • Understanding hatch charts (Truckee, Hat Creek, McCloud rivers, etc.) • On the stream collection techniques • Collection tools • Collection tray examinations (stoneflies, mayflies, midges, caddis, others) • Arranging your fly box • Final review and quiz
Session 4: Putah Creek on stream (Saturday March 21, 2020) – (Putah Creek parking lot #1, Winters, CA) • Identifying key collection areas • Class assignments and collection activities (tools are included for collection) • Identifying tray specimens • Determining effective flies • Group lunch • Free fishing in the afternoon on Putah Creek.
