Fishing Montana and Yellowstone National Park for Cutthroat, Rainbows, and Browns. We will be fishing the Madison, the Beaverhead, the Ruby River and others in the area. We will choose where to fish to ensure that each day is successful. We will be walking in, wading (wet it’s warm enough) and have the option of many different sections of the river to fish.
This is a non-guided trip, but Jim will be fishing each day to make everyone is having a good time and doing what they need to catch fish.
This is a wading trip into occasionally fast waters so not for the tentative wader.

Cost: Cost: $1,700 per person including all food, drinks, lodging, license, flies & hosted by Jim Roberts. The trip includes all meals with dinners at the house and lunches on the river. The food is great and plentiful and no one will go hungry. A 50% deposit is required to hold the trip and total payment is due by May 1, 2019. Make checks out to TVFF and please send to our PO Box 2358, Livermore, CA 94550. If you have to cancel Jim will do his best to find a replacement and if one cannot be found he will refund 50% of your deposit. Additional costs: air or surface transportation to Montana. Fly Delta Airlines into and out of West Yellowstone airport and is approximately 20 minutes from the house. Transportation to and from the airport in Montana is provided. Generally, everyone flies together unless you want to spend additional time in the area. As you make your reservations, please send me your info so that I can coordinate pickup times at the airport.
Driving:
Should you decide to drive and I have in past years, here are the driving directions to the house. The address is 20 Manor Way in West Yellowstone. It does not show up on some GPS so here are the driving directions. 80 East to 93 North. Go through Twin Falls and the go east on 84/86 to Pocatello. Go North on 15. Take 20 to West Yellowstone. Go north on 191 towards Bozeman. About 15 miles out of West Yellowstone turn left on 287. Go about 10 miles and you will see Mountain Lookout Bar and Grill on the right. The house is just across the street. The house is fully equipped so no need to bring towels or bedding. The house has WIFI and it works very well if you need to stay in touch.

I would recommend that you do it prior to arriving in Montana otherwise you will go down to the local marina and deal with their slow internet connection. Jim will reimburse you for the cost. If you remember your ALS number from past years, on-line goes real fast, if not, just email Montana Fish & Game and they should be able to find it for you. That’s what I did a couple years ago. We will need an additional license if we fish in the park but that will be done at one of the local fly shops.
Gear and Tackle Recommendations:
Sunglasses
Camera (there will be critters)
Wading staff (some of the wading can be pretty damn tough)
Waders and boots (no felt), most wet wade on past trips. (not me)
Hat
The weather is usually in the 70s but it can rain any day so bring a jacket.
Water Bottle
Rod & line weights/types:
5 or 6 weight rods with 9-10’ lengths and floating lines are the recommended setup, as are high stick nymphing approaches. If you wish to fish streamers a sinking line will work well. Fly’s are provided by Jim. We will mostly be high sticking during the week. Basic stuff like Princes, Adams. It's not too complicated up there. Jim has a specific way to rig rods so don’t bother with pre-rigging.
